We started this project as part of the international Mediacenter FC⚡MC. It took place in the context of the protests and critical discussions during the G20 Summit 2017 in our hometown Hamburg, Germany.
With "Queer Recipes for Revolution" we wanted to amplify the voices of those challenging different forms of oppression with their intersections and tune down the voices of those in privileged positions during the summit.
We understand queer recipes as a format to narrate different stories from queer activists: Specific stories of hope and strength, of different ways of seeing the world and of a refusal to accept oppressive power structures.
During the G20 summit at the beginning of July 2017 we broadcasted three live sessions in the livestream of the FC⚡MC. We have recorded a forth sesssion in the time after the G20 summit, to realise two interviews, we could not conduct due to the circumstances the world was in at that stage.
The massive presence of ongoing summit policing produced a variety of effects. In the midst of everything which happened during these days, the first three episodes are also a document of the situation, the summit, the police violence, the protests of people as well as our feelings on-site during the week.
Overall they literally record the struggle for significance and meaning of these intense, sometimes stressful (listen to the helicopters in the background!) situations. Overall we were happy to produce and experiment with our format of cooking, talking, exchanging recipes and experiences on queer and LGBTIQ+ issues with other activists.
If you would like to contribute to our collection of ideas, if you want to record your own cooking session with a queer recipe for revolution, you are encouraged to do so. Let's spread our stories, ideas and of course ... recipes!
We would be delighted to hear from you!
